Letter V · On money.
The most honest paragraph the house knows how to write about the question that always comes up.
Money is present at every level of this house, and we are not embarrassed by it. Money pays for the staff. Money pays for the reserve. Money pays for the meals the kitchen cooks. Money pays for the silence, too, because silence is expensive.
We will never make you feel bad about how much or how little you can contribute. We will not use your contribution against you. We will not weaponize scarcity. The house is not a negotiation.
But we will ask you to take the question seriously, because money is one of the two or three places the charter is tested most often. Bring your honesty about it.
